Overpowered Characters

Shin, our hero from TOBAV, finds with Momo’s help that he has immense power. Many characters in anime and manga are similarly overpowered; here are a few to wet your appetite for the strong, the intelligent, and those blessed with powerful abilities.

Saitama - One Punch Man

One Punch Man, season 2 episode 9, 2019

All it takes is one punch! Saitama is an unlikely-looking hero, and in fact, he didn’t even train that long before becoming the world’s strongest man. No monster is any match for him; he can defeat anything with just one punch. He’s so overpowered his main problem is he no longer finds any thrill in battle and is constantly searching for a challenge.

Yuji Itadori - Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen, episode 4, 2020

Yuji may be of average height and look slim, but he’s actually reasonably muscular and all-powerful. His strength doesn’t come from any innate power but rather from an uncanny ability to learn new skills very quickly. He can manipulate cursed energy, and now his punches have a more substantial second impact due to how he can use energy flow.

He also displays incredible reflexes, durability, and stamina.

Sora and Shiro - No Game No Life

No Game No Life, episode 6, 2014

Sora and Shiro are the undefeated gaming siblings of No Game No Life. They are an exciting example where their power comes from their intelligence and not their strength. Both of them have the capability to calculate and think incredibly fast, and Sora’s prediction abilities are unrivaled. Together they are unstoppable!

Shiba Tatsuya - The Irregular at Magic High School

The Irregular at Magic High School, episode 3, 2014

Shiba Tatsuya is an average human... but he has excellent physical skills as he has trained under a master martial artist and is an incredibly talented magic-user. Together this manages to combine to create this student that is basically indestructible. He’s sometimes thought of as a living weapon and is potentially very destructive.

Madoka Kaname - Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Puella Magi Madoka Magica, episode 12, 2011

Madoka may be a 14-year-old girl, but she may be the most overpowered character in anime. Her ultimate form grants her god-like powers, along with being an amazing magical girl and a dangerous witch.

Madoka takes her goddess form to make the ultimate sacrifice, proving her power of spirit as well as her strength.

Momonoga - Overlord

Overlord, season 1 episode 1, 2015

Momonoga is the ultimate lord of the game. He became the guild leader due to his pure dedication to the virtual reality game Yggdrasil. With his encyclopedic knowledge of the NPCs that now all swear undying loyalty to him and as the sole user of the Guild Weapon, he is nearly undestructable. No wonder he looks so terrifying!

Orochimaru - Naruto

Naruto Shippuden, episode 42, 2008

Orochimaru is a serious source of ninjutsu. His power comes in the form of eternally loyal ninjas that follow him and his uncanny ability to simply cheat death. He researches immortality as he wishes to learn all the secrets of the universe and is aware that it will take more than one lifetime. He also has plenty of twisted ideas, possibly due to being orphaned so young, but he is definitely overpowered nonetheless.

Rimuru - That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime

That time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime, season 1 episode 2, 2018

Rimuru’s power is in that his potential is ultimately limitless. Although he is simply a slime, he can absorb other creatures’ abilities and has the Great Sage, a seemingly infinite knowledge source. He’s also able to access the memories of his previous life, giving him a lot of information that comes in useful, especially when running Tempest.
